We know the winter break may have been difficult, and following government announcements this week it is clear that the term ahead will not shape up the way many hoped. We wanted to remind you that wherever you are currently, CUSU is here for you through your University journey.

Support and Resources

The Students' Union has a programme of activity to support, connect and enable all students across the Coventry University and CU Group. We'll be operating a broad range of online activity all the way through the break, up to an including the start of the next teaching block/semester.

Students' Union Advice Service

The Students’ Union Advice Centre (SUAC) is a free, independent and confidential service for all students. We give advice and support, and provide representation when necessary, on a wide range of problems including housing, consumer law, cheating and plagiarism, internal disciplinary and complaints. If we cannot provide the help you need we will refer you on to an agency that specialises in your inquiry.

University Support Services

Counselling and Mental Health service

Access short-term counselling with the Counselling and Mental Health service. You’ll receive an initial assessment where agreement will be made on the ongoing support needs.

Self-referrals can be made via the Student Portal.

Students who are supported by the Mental Health service are retained throughout their course and can contact or book online appointments as and when they feel a need for support.

Disability Services

The Disability team provide support for disabled students including; physical and sensory, long term medical condition, Neuro Diversity or a Specific Learning Difference (SpLD). Advice and support is available from Application to Graduation.

Disabled Students’ Allowance-funded support is available for specialist notetaking, dyslexia support tuition and mentoring. These services can also be made available for students who do not meet the criteria for DSA.

30 minute Specialist tuition sessions and advice and guidance are available for students registered with the disability team and those in receipt of DSA.

Welfare Support Services

Welfare covers all student issues including: care leavers, maternity, accommodation disputes, domestic and relationship issues, academic issues, academic appeals and temporary/permanent withdrawals.

The Welfare team work across the Student Support Services and support students one-to-one where necessary. Welfare staff can signpost to internal and external specialist support agencies, both statutory and voluntary.

Connections Matter

A dedicated site on the Student Portal, updated every Friday with infromation and resources to support your mental and physical health and wellbeing, your studies, and to help you feel a engaged with the local and university community.

Reporting Sexual Harrassment & Violence

Sexual harassment is unwanted behaviour of a sexual nature and can involve online and verbal comments, gestures or physical touching/assault. It can violate your dignity, make you feel intimidated, degraded or humiliated and creates a hostile or offensive environment. Incidents can still be considered sexual harassment or assualt even if the alleged harasser didn't intend this.

  • If there is ever an emergency and/or you feel as though you are in danger on campus or in University owned halls, contact the University’s Protection Service on 024 7765 8555 (or 5555 on internal phones). 
  • Police: If you feel like you are in immediate danger, contact the police on 999 immediately. If you would like to report an incident to the police after it has happened or for non-emergencies contact the police by phone on 101, or via their new live chat service (available 8am - midnight each day).
  • You can also report Sexual Harrassment and Violence to Coventry University through their online form, by clicking here.

Stand Alone Stand Alone support people who are estranged from their family. Check our their Student Support. 
Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Rates of domestic abuse and sexual violence often rise during the winter period. CUSU has a list of resources and services available for you to access to get support, including LGBT+, BAME & Male specific services. 
Cruse Bereavement Care The Cruse Bereavement Care Freephone National Helpline is staffed by trained bereavement volunteers, who offer emotional support to anyone affected by bereavement. Call freephone number 0808 808 1677.
Hub of Hope Hub of Hope is mental health database, allowing you to find a range of support services in your area.  for any mental health issue, from depression and anxiety to PTSD and suicidal thoughts. 
CALM The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Check out their Guide on coping with the new restrictions

Stay Active - Running

Walking, Running or wheeling can be one of the easiest sports and activities to get involved with. Whether choosing to walk to the shops, wheeling around your local park or running cross country - being active can improve both your physical and mental health.

CUSU has set up a digital running club, a community of students and staff across the Cov Uni and CU Groups who are all sharing their love or running.

Whether gaming fanatic or a newbie, CUSU wants you to be part of our digital campus community. We've got a lot planned to connect students and enable to share the games they love. From friendlies to competitions, high end console gaming to console free gaming we plan to offer it all, for free.

We have a CUSU Minecraft Server! Help create our own unique CUSU world, survive the night, and create anything you can imagine! This server is only available to students studying at Coventry Uni and across the CU Group.
