Housing Fair 2021: Accessible Accommodation Top Tips

Elizabeth shares her top tips on finding accessible accommodation as a disabled student at Coventry University.

Our Virtual Housing Fair has lots of advice and guidance to help you make an informed decision about where to live. As a disabled student, Elizabeth has shared some extra top tips for finding accessible accommodation:

  1. Know what you need to be independent. It is always helpful to know what adaptations you need before you talk to the accommodation teams.

  2. Don't be afraid to ask for photographs or to look at the accommodation yourself. You know what you need and what you can manage better than anyone else.

  3. Think about how far the accommodation is from what you need. Not just the distance from your classes but from the supermarket and the pub.

  4. Don’t just check the accessibility of your room. Make sure to check the bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room and social spaces too.

If you are having problems organising the accommodation you need from FutureLets, ask the Health and Wellbeing team for help. They can help advocate for you. You can contact them by telephone: +44 (0) 24 7765 8029 or email: disoff.ss@coventry.ac.uk
